Our home province,Hubei, is in the heart of China. About the same size as the UK and home to 60 million people,Hubei perhaps one of the most beautiful provinces inChina. It is praised as “the province of a thousand lakes” or “Fish and Rice Home” and it has two large rivers, Yangzhi and Han, which stretch right across the whole land. Wudan Mount, one of the many famous mountains in Hubei, is the film set of “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon”. Hubei has cradled ancient Chinese civilizations, cultures and religions, and has nurtured numerous masters in many fields throughout the thousands of years of Chinese history. Mr Qu Yuen, the most famous poet from Hubei who lived two thousand years ago, is still commemorated all over China and many parts of the world with the dragon boat race which has been traditionally carried out since his death.Hubei also one of the most important industrial, agricultural and transportation centres of China, as well as the biggest high educational centre in the middle and south of China.
In 2003 the HUBEI OVERSEAS ASSOCIATION was formed for the simple purpose of uniting all those who have worked or lived in Hubei and share the same love for our beautiful homeland. In doing so we are able to exchange our experiences, help each other and promote our homeland. We are a purely non-profit making organization. The Association is managed by a democratically elected council which has several members for a terms of two years.
Since 2003 we have organized many functions including sports galas, karaoke parties, picnics, and parties with delicious home cooked food, hosted many delegations fromHubei, and bridged many UK business with Hubei. We have even been featured on CCTV, Phoenix TV, and in many newspapers.
As the president of this organization I feel honoured to serve my fellow countrymen. I believe our organization will grow bigger and serve our fellow countrymen better in the UK as well as in our homeland.
Finally I would also like to thank the many people who have worked hard for this organization in the past few years, and all those who have donated money; without your generosity we could not have survived. All your donations will be gratefully received and we hope that more people, all those who miss our homeland, our home cooked food, our folk songs and our Hubei dialect, will join us and discover that Hubei is also here in the UK.
